As all great relationships start, we met Alex through the internet! She inquired about a jacket we were selling and we fell in love with her style. Alex is a part time Instagrammer and full time student studying the way media shapes and morphs identity with a minor in social and cultural analysis. Ultimately, Alex wants to be in entertainment law but at the moment and with today's current political climate, her heart is focused on exploring and understanding underrepresented populations and human rights.

In her downtime, you can find Alex living and breathing fashion (her homepage is practically WWD). Aside from fashion, you'll also find a slew of animals on her Instagram feed, no she's not the owner of all of them, yes she does walk them.

Today we're shooting in Alex's adorable East Village apartment. Candles are burning, vintage is flowing - the mood is officially set.

Alex first got into vintage shopping by way of the guidance of an older sister and the Fairfax Flea Market in LA where she's originally from. "I've been going since I was four or five, I just had no idea what I was doing. Once I hit seventh grade, I realized this was so cool. Everything was so unique but so cheap. It became a thing where every Sunday, I'd go to the flea market and pick out stuff."

When asked if vintage is better in LA or NYC, Alex pauses to consider. Ultimately it's a split. "You know how there are two different types of vintage? One's like a crazy closet that you open and everything just spills out? I think that's better in LA. Stores like Squaresville are great for that. But then in New York, you have better curated vintage, places like Duo are amazing."

Alex's favorite vintage shops in the city:

  • Duo (Manhattan)
  • Tokyo Seven (Manhattan)
  • L Train (Brooklyn and Manhattan)
  • Mirth Vintage (Brooklyn)
  • The Break Vintage (Brooklyn)

"The first piece I remember buying thinking that it was really important to me was this pink organza robe that goes down to the floor with floral print. I don't really know what i was thinking when I bought it, it's totally Dolce & Gabbana vibes, also totally unwearable but definitely one of the cooler pieces I've ever bought."

Alex's current vintage wish list:

  • Black and white gingham pants
  • Jane Birkin-esque red boots
  • Anything else that catches her eye!

Thanks Alex!
